The Calshot Velodrome

Calshot has the only indoor banked velodrome in the South of England. This national standard track was built in 1997 and can be used by a wide range of  cyclists from novices to international standard. As long as you can ride a bike you can have a go under the watchful eye of a coach.

Track cycling is the fastest growing branch of the sport, due in major part to the successes which the Great Britain squad has enjoyed at World Championship and Olympic levels over the last few years. If you need further convincing, just think...
"lightweight bikes, no wind, no rain and no cars!"'

Enjoy your winter training!
These sessions provide an exciting alternative to suffering in the wind, rain and darkness, that is winter riding.

As well as being fun these sessions will increase fitness, build strength and endurance, increase leg speed, improve bike handling skills and much more.
For cyclists used to riding the track as part of a group.

Stage Four
Thursday nights are aimed at competent track riders progressing from GAS and with a fairly high ability/fitness level .
See Rider Assessments The sessions will run on similar lines to GAS but with higher speeds and more complex drills.

Stage Five
Tuesday training will be run as more demanding sessions, normally including interval work and  ‘race-orientated’ drills. Riders will have significant track experience added to high levels of fitness and ability. See Rider Assessments

Cyclists can attend either or both but need to be aware of the main emphasis and relative intensity of the particular session.

All sessions must be booked in advance. Our policy is to check on take-up at 1300hrs on the day preceding the session.

Rider Assessments

Our experience has shown that it is beneficial to the safety of riders and for the general flow of the sessions, to try and ensure that riders are booked onto the session appropriate to their ability and fitness levels.

Riders progressing through the ‘Tour de Calshot’ programme are continually assessed  by the coaches and should seek advice from those coaches as to which session is suitable for them.

Riders wanting to ride Stages 4 and 5, who have not been through the ‘Tour’ system will need to speak to a Calshot coach for guidance.

New Bikes!!!

Calshot has a new fleet of track bikes. The shiny new black gloss models have arrived and are currently being built up in readiness for September. A complete range has been purchased, including some incredibly small-sized versions, so there should be a bike to suit most riders. It's another graphic example of Calshot's commitment to providing excellent sports facilities for the area.
